Materials:

Tag board

Scissors

Tape

White construction paper

Black Sharpie

Colored pencils, markers, or crayons

Presentation:

Discuss tessellations. (There’s a book on Tessellations in the EA room.)

Procedure:

  1. Give each student a 3-inch square of tag board.
  2. Show how to cut and tape tag board to make a tessellating shape. (See instructions in binder: can make a bird or a fish.)
  3. Align the template on the side of the construction paper and use it as a template, tracing it carefully with black Sharpie (or pencil 1st, and then trace over at the end with black Sharpie.)
  4. Keep aligning with the side of the paper to make a column. Slide the template over and it should fit perfectly into the shapes in the 1st column: continue tracing.
  5. Continue tracing until the paper is filled.
  6. Color in with colored pencils, markers, or crayons.
