REPOUSSE SNAKES

Lesson Objectives: Students will learn texture and the repousse technique.

Time Required: 1 hour

Materials:

Pre-cut Foam Board in the shape of snakes (Templates in the Templates and Stencils bin in the EA room)

Foam Board cut into shapes (Extras are in the Templates and Stencils bin in the EA room) or have students cut out their own

Scissors

Aluminum foil

Elmer’s glue

Tape

Black Sharpies

Markers

Presentation:

Discuss texture. Discuss the repousse technique.

Procedure:

  1. Pass out the snakes. Write names on back.
  2. Cut out and or select shapes and glue them onto snake form. They may be placed randomly or in a pattern.
  3. Place snake upside down on a large piece of aluminum foil. Leave enough foil on all sides to wrap around the back of the snake to secure. Trim away excess.
  4. Carefully wrap around snake and secure on the back with tape.
  5. Turn the snake over. Smooth foil around shapes so that they may be seen/embossed.
  6. Color foil with markers.
  7. Outline shapes with black Sharpies.
