Time Required: 1 hour

Artist: Henri Matisse, Icarus (available online)

 Materials:

Construction paper, 9×12, different colors

Presentation:

Discuss Matisse. He worked on decoupage in his later years when he was in a wheelchair and couldn’t paint anymore. Matisse thought that his cut-outs during this period were his best work.

Procedure:

  1. Allow students to cut out shapes out of 3 different colors of paper.
  2. By moving the shapes around on a 9×12 piece of paper, a composition can be created. When the student likes the design, glue it down on the paper.
