Materials:

9 x 12 white construction paper

Black Fine Tip Sharpies

Presentation:

Discuss pattern or introduce Zentangle. Tangle Patterns is a great website explaining Zentangle and how to draw different patterns: http://tanglepatterns.com/zentangles. See handout in binder.

Procedure:

  1. Pass out the white paper. Write name on the back.
  2. Show students how to lightly draw a tree branch in pencil horizontally across the page. With pencil, show how to draw the outline of the back of a cat and its tail sitting on the tree branch. Students may add as many cats as they like, making sure to include one mouse in the line.
  3. Using the black Sharpie, outline and add a different pattern or Zentangle to each cat.
  4. You can either leave the mouse white, subtly shade it in with a pencil or light strokes of the Sharpie, or give it its own pattern.
  5. Outline the tree branch and add short, horizontal lines to signify the bark.
