LESSON PRESENTATION INSTRUCTIONS

COLOR 

WARM AND COOL HANDS 

Lesson Objectives:  Students will learn about warm and cool colors.

Time Required: 1 hour

Artist: Paul Cezanne, Still Life

Materials:

White construction paper 9×12

Black Sharpies

Tempera paint or markers

Procedure:

  1. Pass out white paper. Write names on back. Orient paper vertically.
  2. Draw a circle, triangle, or square in the upper right part of the paper (not all the way to the corner).
  3. Draw contour or echo lines that follow the shape all the way to the edges of the paper.
  4. Lay hand down so that a piece of it is on the original shape. Trace around hand and arm to edge of page.
  5. Outline everything in black Sharpie.
  6. Students decide if their hand will be warm or cool. The background will be the opposite.
  7. Using Tempera paint or markers, paint the hand in warm or colors repeating the pattern. (red-orange-yellow-red-orange-yellow, etc.) Everyone’s pattern can be different.
  8. Re-outline with black Sharpies if necessary.
