Materials:

White paper

Pencils

Markers

Crayons

Presentation:

Discuss different kinds of lines. Discuss warm and cool colors.

Procedure:

1)    Pass out white paper. Put names on back. Turn paper vertically.

2)    Instruct students to draw a horizon line 2/3 of the way up on the piece of paper. It should have gentle waves.

3)    Divide section below horizon line into large sections with curvy lines.

4)    Using pencil lines as a guide (do NOT trace over pencil lines!), follow the contour of the pencil lines repeatedly throughout section with one cool colored marker (blue, green, purple, brown), making sure that sections adjacent to one another have different colors.

5)    Color in sections with same colored crayons.

6)    For the sky, draw a circle with pencil for the sun high in the sky, or a half circle for a rising/setting sun on the horizon. Draw concentric circles outwards to the sides of the page to divide sky into large sections.

7)    Using pencil lines as a guide (do NOT trace over pencil lines!), follow the contour of the pencil lines repeatedly throughout section with one warm colored marker (red, orange, yellow, pink), making sure that sections adjacent to one another have different colors. Color sun completely in.

8)    Color in sections with same colored crayons.
