Source: Dynamic Art Projects for Children, pgs 10-12

Materials:

Construction paper 12×18, various colors

Tissue paper (non-bleeding), various colors (pre-cut if desired)

Scissors

Large paintbrushes

Liquid starch

Plastic bowls

Tempera paint in various colors

Small paintbrushes

Presentation:

Discuss line. Brainstorm what kinds of lines there are: straight, curvy, zigzag, etc.

Procedure:

  1. Pass out paper. Write names on back. Orient the paper horizontally.
  2. Beginning at the top of the paper, glue tissue paper building shapes to the paper using a paintbrush and liquid starch both under and on top of the tissue paper. Overlap the buildings to create the illusion of space.
  3. Cut out a sun, moon, or clouds from the tissue paper and glue them on if desired.
  4. Use a small paintbrush and tempera paint to add detail to the buildings, encouraging the use of different types of lines.
